What is the dark grey object in the lower left of the picture? Is it associated with ventilation?

It is a homeowner DIY system. That grey thing is a central air unit.

They called for service on their system as they didn't think it was working. I do admire the condensate drain setup.....:yikes:

i think I see the problem....the manometer tube is connected to the pipe on the discharge side of the fan, right?
