Not sure this belongs under the Public Policy or Mitigation tab, but I have questions relating to the new UL507 standard for radon fans; not about the various approaches fan manufacturers are taking, but about the standard itself. Apparently, manufacturers must comply with UL507 to get the Underwriters Laboratories "seal of approval". My questions are:
--what (if any) authority does UL have other than awarding or denying their "UL Listed" seal?
--is compliance by manufacturers mandatory, or just for the purpose of gaining UL approval?
--Is compliance a legal issue, best practices issue, marketing benefit, or a combination thereof?
--Is there any legal consequence for a fan installer for using fans that are/aren't UL Listed?
--Is there any insurance consequence for a fan installer for using fans that are/aren't UL Listed?
--Do any Government agencies require use of UL listed fans?
--Are there other recognized agencies similar to UL who "list" (approve) electrical appliances.
Thanks!
