  • Time Magazine misses the radon story
I just sent an email to the author of the article. I suggest you all do the same.
  • Foam retarding Radon entry.
At least here, in a crawlspace, a 3" gap must be left between the foam and the floor joists for termite inspection, just the same as with rigid foam and polyethylene vapor barriers.
  • Photos of Alpha Track Deployment
Some of the Alpha Track detectors have a hook by which they may be hung (or they can be set on a shelf or furniture). Probably depends on the particular device.
  • New Radon Fan use
What killed them; bouncing off the concrete?
  • Houseplant mitigation?
And what happens to the supposedly radioactive houseplants? Do they mutate like Little Shop of Horrors? Do they become radiation sources themselves? Enquiring minds want to know!
  • Wonder what THAT would cost?!
    ↪John Mallon
It is a quadraplex condo with one large crawlspace under the two lower units. No firewall. The walls of the lower level rooms are accessible from the crawlspace, and the lower level closet even has an access hatch to the crawlspace.
  • Anyone heard of these folks?
    Shocking!
  • Large Building Testing Letter Templates for Employees
In the Appendices of MALB 2014.
  • Things NOT to do when you mitigate
This is outrageous! Please add your comments on YouTube. You may see my response there.
  • Sealed poly in Passive Crawlspace System
I have seen photos of ballooning barriers from areas with karst geology. Not a problem where I am.
  • Home Buyers & Sellers Guide
I always got them from the AARST office (which has always been within a few miles of home.)
  • Urethane or silicone as sealant?
See Jay Bauder's first comment above^^. Silicone is the Post-it-Note of caulks: Sticks well to smooth, clean surfaces, and is easily removed.
  • What % of radon induced lung cancers come from homes with under 4 pC/l?
Jeff, I don't think that is possible to define, as very few lung cancer patients have lived in the same house their entire lives, and radon concentrations vary over time. As Dr, Field's document states, the data is more accurate with study participants who move less, and those that have data from previous homes. One could make a correlation between incidence of lung cancer and radon concentrations in the homes occupied by the patients at time of diagnosis, but I don't see much value in that.
  • System alarms required?
    Thanks.
  • A new one on me
The firemen checked. Consensus is that the young lady was “spooked” by the radon mitigation notice sent out.
  • A new one on me
I made sure the firemen were properly educated about radon, and they calmed the student down.
  • Northern Alabama Radon Story
Rather confusing verbiage; but we do not know if that is the fault of the reporter or the interviewee.
  • and you thought we had problems with radon systems???
I hope that is not a radon vent in #46! There is a radon sticker in #96.
  • Hurricane Florence
Latest track shows direct hit on Myrtle Beach. Possible 17' storm surge. Possible 2-4 FEET of rain!
Hotel is beachfront, so storm surge is big concern.
  • Rubble Stone Walls
    ↪Bob Wood
    Very interesting! Thanks for sharing.
